MPBA Badminton Club
Badminton is such a popular sport in Malaysia, so it is high time we organize a regular session of badminton amongst the MPBA members so enthusiasts can meet and have a workout on a weekly basis. After a quick survey of members to gauge their interests and preferred badminton clubs in early August, the inaugural MPBA badminton session was held at Smash City on 8/29/2009. A total of about a dozen players showed up, including Joseph and Ted, friends of Albert Law. To my surprise Joe and Ted are from the home town as Claire Lee and me and they have come all the way from San Francisco area to pin us on that day - how is that for enthusiasm! The stadium was toasty on the day. It was reported in the Mercury News the following day that the temperature of the inaugural day was 99 degree Farenheit in San Jose which tied a record set in 1968. In addition, per Jonathan Lim, who plays regularly at Smash City, an unusual number of badminton training classes were taking place on that day, which presented a little challenge to us in finding the courts to play, but we eventually settled on two courts. There were plenty of chances to play and the players were quite evently matched. So, overall, it turned out to be a satisfying day for the players. There is no doubt room for improvement. Please feel free to use the forum to share your thoughts.
